DARKEST HOUR (2017) Review

In a world filled with old, white men in suits from a timely age, yelling at each other while discussing something about politics (I think?), there shines Gary Oldman. Or at least I think it is. Prosthetics is the true hero in this film, as they transform Oldman’s skinny and British self into a fat and British version of himself. I did enjoy his performance; he was able to transform himself just as the makeup artists did to him. The film does not hold up beside him. Being as boring as it is disappointing, THE DARKEST HOUR will leave you dissatisfied with its’ storytelling, dialogue, and virtually everything other than the production design and 80% of the cinematography. The two female characters in this film are completely forgettable and one-dimensional. This uninspired tale of dark times had me feeling upset about how much run-time I still had left, especially since I had already watched what I thought was 4 hours of these political men disagreeing. Ultimately, this movie just made me want to re-watch Chris Nolan’s DUNKIRK very badly.

Score: 4.3/10
